Here are the sermon notes from Pastor LaVon Pettis today.
Sermon 1 of the new series.
Sermon based off the events of Black Friday (fighting over stuff).
Sensitivity good and bad comes to the surface during this time of year.
Maybe it's family tensions. Maybe it's the first year without a loved one.
It's the stress of everything going on.
Luke 10:38-42
Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:38-42 NASB)
1) I will remember the reason.
What is the reason for life? It is the presence of Christ. Not because of the baby or angels, the real reason/purpose of life is to be an example of Jesus Christ!
By this they will all know that you are my disciples. By your love!
It doesn't mean you shouldn't prepare for the holidays. But everyday we get so caught up with life that we think other people aren't doing what they should do. And of they would do what we think they should, then life would be better. But it's a ruthless cycle of relying on everyone else & you can't worry about everyone else. We get to a point where we can't enjoy life anymore.
2) quit trying to control the response of everyone else.
You will wear yourself out trying to make sure everyone else is happy.
Vs40- Martha was distracted by all of her preparations. "Lord do you not care?" We are so worried and distracted by so many things.
3) Value His presence.
If we can learn the importance of what Jesus taught, we will learn there is a sabbath coming. Everyone deserves some down time.
